Flat on I-5. Trails and beaches and bike lanes. San Diego!















Day 34 – Sep 28
Lots of fog, trails, and some highway. Los Angeles River Trail. Long Beach and the Queen Mary. The bike shop 0.6 miles from where I snapped a cable. Excellent dinner in Dana Point.













Day 33 – Sep 27
Pesky flat. Beach trail through Santa Monica and into Venice. Google and Donovan. Bradley (near UCLA). Aileen at USC. Me looking back on Rodeo Drive. Ballona Creek Bike Path. Cocktail hour and dinner.















Day 32 – Sep 26
Another great breakfast. Leaving Santa Barbara. Great trails. Art City in Ventura (closing down), Alaska Airlines Flight 261 memorial near Oxnard. Rocks! Pepperdine from afar. Dinner with Jeff and Amy in Santa Monica!

Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Seahawks game. Turtles in the fountain.



Day 30 – Sep 24
Murals in Lompoc. A closed rest stop on Highway 101 and ominous signs. A trail gone bad, bike troubles, and happy endings in Santa Barbara!



























Day 29 – Sep 23
Leaving Morro Bay. Cinnamon rolls in Pizmo Beach. A brutal climb with a rewarding view and downhill.









Day 28 – Sep 22
Brilliant breakfast. Leaving our excellent Warmshowers host, Murdock, (and our 49ers room). Elephant seals near San Simeon. Morro Bay. Pearls from Craig’s fried oysters.














Day 27 – Sep 21
Carmel to Gorda. Great chocolate macaroons from the Carmel Bakery. Bridges and climbs and a cool tunnel.

Back roads and trails. Local crops (Brussels sprouts and artichokes). Monterey Bay. Lovely day!

Fennel and fog. And brussels sprouts? Sun in Santa Cruz. Happy endings in Capitola.

Golden Gate Park, Arsicault Bakery (and new friends from Hermosa Beach, CA and New Jersey). Rain and headwinds and wind gusts oh my! Dinner in Half Moon Bay.












Day 23 – Sep 17
San Francisco! Laundry proof. Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghiradelli Square. Streetcar ride.








Day 22 – Sep 16
Long, lovely day – lots of photos! Bodega Bay breakfast with a view. Off roads and trails and Tomales Bay. Golden Gate Bridge! Lombardy Street, celebration drink.

Breakfast at our St Orres Cabin. Ocean views, more climbs, and Andrew from Ohio. If you zoom in on the second to last picture, you can see both kayakers below and paragliders above!











Day 20 – Sep 14
Fort Bragg hotel to St Orres cabin. Scary climbs and beautiful views. Fog to sun.
Day 19 – Sep 13
Garberville to Fort Bragg. Back roads with wild fennel. Last drive thru tree. Abandoning 101 for Highway 1. Beer, pizza, and ice cream in Fort Bragg.
















Day 18 – Sep 12
Scotia to Garberville. Wildwood Waffle for breakfast. Avenue of the Giants all day long.


















Day 17 – Sep 11
Trinidad to Scotia. Non-101 roads and welcome trails. Car show in Ferndale, CA.











Day 16 – Sep 10
Crescent City to Trinidad. Riding through the redwoods, several big climbs (and downhills) and several road constructions. Trees of Mystery, the “big tree,” and happy endings in Trinidad.














Day 15 – Sep 9
Gold Beach to Crescent City, CA. Arch Rock. Natural Bridges. A truck commercial in the making. California! Dinner in Crescent City.











Day 14 – Sep 8
Bandon to Gold Beach. Prehistoric Gardens. Views aplenty! One bridge and plenty of sunshine.
















Day 13 – Sep 7
(Zero day) Bandon with Neal and Michele! Flowers for Grandma’s grave (Mom’s mom). Cheese and ice cream at Face Rock Creamery (Bandon Cheese Factory when we were young), Face Rock. Coquille Lighthouse. In the last picture Neal was hurrying to get into the picture with us on a timer setting and tripped, and he jumped up in time for the snap. All in all a beautiful albeit windy day in Mom’s hometown.











Day 12 – Sep 6
Florence to Bandon. Bridges and logging trucks on 101 then hills and more bridges on back roads.















(Day 12 still): Eating and drinking are priorities after such a long day! Appetizers at Tony’s and dinner at Pablo’s!







Day 11 – Sep 5
Otter Rock to Florence. Breakfast in Newport. Thor’s Well and Spouting Horn. Dinner in Florence.
















Day 10 – Sep 4
Pacific City to Otter Rock. Riding by Devil’s Lake. Breakfast at Nelscott Cafe in Lincoln City. Big climb on Otter Rock Loop. Devil’s Punchbowl.













Day 9 – Sep 3
Nehalem to Pacific City. Very soggy until Tillamook. Not the best road conditions but some worthwhile views.









Day 8 – Sep 2
Long Beach to Nehalem, over the Astoria bridge and via Seaside (for brunch) and Canon Beach (visited Miska’s gallery). Passed some elk in Canon Beach (NOT zoomed in)! Surprise cheering squad in Nehalem (Mary and Jens, funny sign above them) and stayed with artist friend MJ.

Zero day in Long Beach with Zack and Mya.








Day 6 – Aug 31
Grayland to Long Beach. Late breakfast in Raymond (after 28 miles). Ending in Long Beach with Zack (and Mya).








Day 5 – Aug 30
Lake Quinault to Grayland. Avoided Hoquiam but had to ride through part of Aberdeen and across a busy bridge. Stayed in Grayland at Arena del Mar.







Day 4 – Aug 29
Forks to Lake Quinault. Rustic room and amazing dinner at the heavenly Quinault Lake Lodge.











Day 3 – Aug 28
Port Angeles to Forks, primarily on the Olympic Discovery Trail. Quick jumps at Devil’s Punchbowl on the north side of Lake Crescent.










Day 2 – Aug 27
Amazing friends (and breakfast!). Over the (Hood Canal) bridge and through the woods… 79 not so fast miles to Port Angeles.






Day 1 – Aug 26
Leaving home. Last photo with Hannah for a long time 😦 Sammamish Trail to Burke Gilman to Interurban Trail to Edmonds Ferry. Meeting Mary and Jens in Kingston and ending the day at Fasanos (without taking more than one photo – sheesh).
